MOVE: the company Announces 2011 Summer Intensive

July 4th-23rd, 2011 at the Scotiabank Dance Centre, Vancouver, BC CANADA

We are pleased to announce our 2011 Summer Intensive. This 3-week intensive will focus on immersing young dancers in the MOVE: the company environment and will maintain a dual focus on technical proficiency and creative innovation. Dancers will participate in ballet, contemporary and improvisation technique classes followed by intensive repertory sessions. Participants will also participate in the creation of new works created by Josh Beamish and Heather Dotto. The intensive will conclude with an exciting final presentation of the works explored on the evening of Saturday, July 23rd at the Faris Theatre located within the Scotiabank Dance Centre.

MOVE: the company’s repertoire contains works created by Artistic Director Josh Beamish and, or in collaboration with, Simone Orlando, Lara Barclay, Heather Dotto, Rachael Poirier, Harvey Meller, Cornelius-Fischer Credo, Olivia Thorvaldson, Crystal Wills and Amber Funk-Barton.

Our last Intensive in 2010 was a huge success and provided participants with the opportunity to learn excerpts from Josh Beamish’s works for MOVE: the company, Ballet Jorgen, the University of Missouri and the School of American Ballet (New York City Ballet). Participants also experienced master classes with Matthew Waldie (Toronto Dance Theatre), Jeannie Vandekerkhove (Ultima Vez/Belgium & Benoit Lechambre), Cristina Graziano (Ballet Jorgen) and Jesse Tyler (Atlanta Ballet).

This year are excited to announce a faculty comprised of new and returning dance educators:

New Creations: Josh Beamish and Heather Dotto

Ballet: Simone Orlando, Jacqui Lopez, Crystal Wills, Cristina Graziano and Loretta Lachner (Beamish)

Contemporary: Josh Beamish, Heather Dotto, Matthew Waldie, Jeannie Vandekerkhove, Lara Barclay

Repertoire: Josh Beamish, Heather Dotto, Simone Orlando, Jacqui Lopez, Cai Glover, Crystal Wills

Cost of the 2011 Intensive is $875 for all three weeks however students can choose to participate in one week for $375 or 2 weeks for $650, or $25 per class, with all prices are subject to HST. Summer Intensive participants will also be offered the opportunity of participating in group outings at the Dancing on the Edge Festival, to be held in Vancouver during our intensive. More information about these extracurricular will be released in the new year.

MOVE: the company is bursting with energy these days, due to performances with such organizations as Cirque du Soleil as a result of our being selected to represent Canada at World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
