MOVE: the company announces its 2010 Summer Choreographic Intensive July 12th-17th, 2010

The ScotiaBank Dance Centre, Vancouver, BC CANADA

This 6-day intensive will focus on immersing young dancers in the MOVE: the company environment and will maintain a dual focus on technical proficiency and creative innovation. Dancers will participate in ballet, contemporary and improvisation technique classes followed by intensive repertory sessions lead by Josh Beamish, Cristina Graziano of Ballet Jorgen Canada, Jesse Tyler of Atlanta Ballet and current MOVE: the company dance artists Jeannie Vandekerkhove & Matthew Waldie (formerly of Toronto Dance Theatre). The intensive will conclude with an exciting studio presentation of the works explored on the evening of July 17th.

MOVE: the company’s repertoire contains works created by Artistic Director Josh Beamish and, or in collaboration with, Simone Orlando, Heather Dotto, Rachael Poirier, Harvey Meller, Cornelius-Fischer Credo, Olivia Thorvaldson, Crystal Wills and Amber Funk-Barton. Our last Intensive in 2008 was a huge success and provided participants with the opportunity to learn excerpts from popular works such as RAGE, Solitaire, Trap Door Party and Memento, and featured master classes with MOVE: the company interpreters Katy Harris-McLeod, Alison Denham, Jessica Fletcher and Jacqui Lopez.

Cost of the 2010 Intensive is $350, or $20 per class (plus HST).

Summer Intensive participants are also invited to purchase discounted admissions to the Vancouver premiere of MOVE: the company’s latest major work, Sold Doubt, being performed at the Vancouver Playhouse on July 9th and 10th, 2010. This full-length work, created by Beamish, is inspired by vibrant strings covers of the music of iconic band No Doubt and employs high-octane movement and a comedic theatrical sensibility to explore our modern fascination with pop culture icons.
