Interpretive Artist
Angel Jutzi began dancing at Centre Stage Dance Studio in New Hamburg, Ontario at the age of three. At the age of nine Angel was encouraged by her teachers Donna Bender and Michelle Harlock to audition for the National Ballet School in Toronto. She was accepted into the full time academic program and continued her studies there until the age of fourteen. Searching for more varied training Angel returned to Centre Stage to continue her training in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical and hip hop. In 2000, Angel was named "Future Star" by Dance Spirit Magazine at the Nationals competition in Atlantic City, and in 2001 was awarded the Nesta Toumine Memorial Award. After briefly studying at Ryerson University, Angel was accepted into the Mentorship Program with Ballet BC under the direction of Marquita Lester. She there had the opportunity to perform works by Serge Bennathan, Dominique Dumais, Mark Godden, Acacia Schacte, Lina Fitzner, and Helen Walkley. In the fall of 2004, Angel accepted a contract with Ballet Kelowna and in her four season with the company performed many original works by Artistic Director David LaHay as well as pas de deuxs from the classical works: Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Le Corsair, and The Nutcracker. Angel also had the opportunity during her time wth Ballet Kelowna to work with Canadian choreographers Simone Orlando, Joe Laughlin, D.A. Hoskins and Josh Beamish in new works commissioned for the company. Angel worked with Mission Dance Company for the 2008-2009 season as Assistant to the Artistic Director, Tanya Bakala and as a soloist company member. She was commissioned by MDC to create her first professional work, Too Darn Tempting in 2008, and again in the spring of 2009 to create her second work Be Still. Angel joined MOVE: the company in the spring of 2009 for the northern BC tour and is happy to be joining the company again for the coming season.
