Rehearsal Director/Instructor
Andrea trained and danced professionally as a student with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and then went on to graduate from Winnipeg's School of Contemporary Dancers before moving to Vancouver in 1993. Over the span of a 20 year career, she has had the honour of working with some of the most prominent local and national choreographers and dance companies in Canada. She has garnered much respect, both locally and abroad, as a performing artist, teacher, adjudicator, emerging choreographer and rehearsal director receiving numerous grants and awards of recognition along the way.
Andrea is also a dedicated and enthusiastic dance administrator and advocate. She was appointed the position of Regional Program Officer of the Dancer Transition Resource Centre in 2004, running the BC branch of this amazing national organization. Not only does she work for the DTRC, she is proudly a member of the DTRC, CADA BC and the CDA among other dance societies. Andrea is a founding member of Made in BC-Dance on Tour, CADA BC, and ‘the 605 Collective'. She currently sits on the SHAPE Arts Advisory Committee and regularly volunteers for various local non-profit and artistic events.
In 2009, after 35 years of devout allegiance, Andrea officially retired from the performing world of dance to return to school to study and graduate with honours in Massage studies, with much assistance from the DTRC through a FTS-1 grant. She has resumed her post at the DTRC, is currently taking night courses to continue her education, has opened a home massage studio and is running her Doula practise as well. This past year Andrea also initiated the bi-annual "The Legacy Repertory Project", which aims to fulfill a relatively ignored gap in the British Columbia Professional Dance Community by remounting prominent retired works on a new, young company and commemorating the rich history of our community.
